T-Systems reinforces commitment and expands footprint in Singapore

Singapore, June 12, 2008
T-Systems, the global ICT services provider and business customer unit of Deutsche Telekom, today announced a significant extension of its Singapore operations to include a new ‘green’ data centre and expanded office. To demonstrate the importance of the Singapore operations, T-System’s existing building at Tai Seng Drive 23 will be renamed Deutsche Telekom Centre.
In line with its commitment to further boost its operations in Singapore, T-Systems will invest an estimated two-digit million (S$) in its new infrastructure over the next five years. This will benefit the over 250 local and multinational customers that T-Systems currently services from Singapore.
The new data center covers close to 30,000 square feet and will further enhance the dynamic computing (or utility computing), managed services and disaster recovery services offered by T-Systems in Singapore.
The data center, which is T-Systems’ third data facility in Singapore, boasts unique features that are based on the principles of Green IT. Through the materials used, both the data center and the new office space are designed to reduce detrimental effects on the environment. Blinds that reflect the heat are fitted in order to reduce the need for air conditioning, and revolutionary flooring that is kinder to the environment will also be a feature. Within the data center, T-Systems has installed advanced power supply units that emit substantially less heat and other pollutants than traditional units. The water-based CRAC (Computer Room Air Conditioning) units installed are designed to keep the servers cool rather than the data centre itself. Apart from saving significant amounts of power and therewith reducing the carbon footprint of the facility, this also eliminates the need for dangerous refrigerants such as R22 gas that damage the environment.
"Asia Pacific and especially Singapore is a key growth market for us and provides us with an excellent opportunity to support our global network of customers, especially in the automotive, manufacturing, services and finance sectors, as they invest and expand in this region," said Thomas Jakob, CEO Singapore and Malaysia at T-Systems. "Our increasing investment in Singapore reflects our commitment to provide greater support to our customers in Asia Pacific as well as to attract and retain the finest talent in the region."
More companies are expected to increase and expand their international operations and business in Asia Pacific as a result of the region’s healthy economic growth.
"We are driven by the growth of our customers in Asia. In future, we expect further acceleration of ICT consolidation and outsourcing as well as more organizations applying integrated ICT purchasing strategies. This led to our decision to further invest into the region and more specifically our regional datacentre hub in Singapore," said Nicolas Soergel, T-Systems’ Head of the Asia Pacific Region.
