They're rare and therefore important: Sun Microsystems co-delivery partners. The market leader for open source has expanded its partnership with T-Systems.
But before this could happen, 50 T-Systems employees had to attend a 20-day intensive program to qualify to provide services for selected Sun products. That is the requirement for being able to provide help desk support and field service for Sun x64, SPARC servers and storage products. Before, only employees from the server manufacturer were allowed to do this job, even if the system in question was an IT system for a T-Systems customer. T-Systems currently operates around 5,000 Sun servers at its data centers and is now able to offer more services from one source. However, T-Systems still has access to support and engineering assistance offered by Sun experts.
Certified quality
According to a white paper, IDC analysts feel that certified information and communications technology service providers give their customers an advantage when it comes to operational services. According to IDC, certified teams for Sun technology and processes have been recognized for the quality of their organizational work when it comes to core system administration. One reason for this is that an increasing number of companies are requiring their bidders to be certified by Sun. T-Systems is now able to offer its customers end-to-end service level agreements for Sun products.
