Streamlining processes: EU service providers currently have to contact as many as 15 offices before they can open a business in Berlin, for example.
This will change as of January 1, 2010, when the EU Services Directive takes effect. The directive's purpose is to make it easier for EU service providers to open up new offices at locations within the EU via a secure Internet connection. A single point of contact (SPC) will act as a central hub. The SPC will support service providers with their questions and take care of any official matters. In cooperation with the Berlin-based IT Service Center (ITSC), T-Systems is setting up a solution for the German state of Berlin that enables service providers to reach their SPC anywhere in Europe via an online portal.
EU Directive and more
The solution for Berlin is based on the ICT infrastructure already in place in the state. This enables Berlin to save costs. The solution can also be easily expanded at a later date to include additional citizen- and company-friendly online services such as registration information as well as car and address registration.
In order to implement the directive requirements on time by 2010, T-Systems will use standard components that have already proven effective in other projects dealing with the EU Services Directive. The ICT service provider developed a similar system for the German state of Baden-Württemberg. T-Systems is also participating in similar projects in Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein.
